Owner of Genesis Bicycles in Easton to retire after 47 years

We're experiencing a very high volume of orders during the Pre-Holiday Season. Sign up for our Newsletter to receive inventory and new bikes updates. Although whenever my wife drags me to WalMart, I make it a point of taking pictures of the bikes that are assembled incorrectly. This review just seems like a rehash of a bunch of other reviews, by the average owner who may or may not know the first thing about adjusting a bicycle to keep it tuned up.
These are Genesis’ entry-level road bikes and are the cheapest in their range. The geometry is a little more upright, making for a more comfortable and less twitchy ride. There are mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack, which expands the range of use from just road riding to commuting and even lightweight cycle touring. At the entry-level, the Delta is an aluminium frame and carbon fork road bike with endurance geometry that comes with rim brakes and provides a comfortable ride. Speaking of which, be prepared to spend time messing with the drivetrain. Although it’s from Shimano, the 3×7 shifters and derailleurs have more than enough slop that your LBS may simply refuse to work on it, knowing they will never be able to get it to shift smoothly and consistently. Due to being disc brake only, the bridge between the seatstays could be removed. This further increases mud clearance and also adds to the frame’s compliance, providing better control. If you want a quality bike that fits you, with components that work as intended, do not expect to find it at WalMart. There’s a reason bikes with fully functional brakes and shifters cost more than typical department store and X-Mart bikes. You don’t need an expensive bike to enjoy cycling, but don’t be fooled into thinking a cheap one is worth the money either. Ostensibly, this is a more budget-oriented version of the Vapour Carbon. The aluminium frame is cheaper, although the fork is still carbon. Rocks, roots, chutes—one flick of the dropper-post lever and they are all fair game. Made from Reynold 725 steel this thing feels bomb-proof. Up front, the fork is full carbon to save a little weight and enhance the ride quality. It has all the fittings and fixtures you would ever need—front and rear racks, three bottle cages, and any sort of bag configuration you can imagine. The Vagabond strikes an interesting balance between off-road capability and on-road manners—how much you like one or the other depends on you. Since you own this bike, there’s a very good chance that you have never heard of a bike shop. They carry all sorts of odd bits and pieces for bicycles, and may even have a 26? front rim with disc brake hub. But if your Genesis V1200 needs a new rim, now may be a good time to consider cutting your losses and sell it for scrap instead. There are, however, a number of points that make this a more versatile bike than the carbon alternative. Tyre clearance is increase to 38c, there are discrete mudguard and pannier mounts and an extra set of bottle bosses is present on the downtube. Once rolling the true nature of the Genesis started to shine through, a lively agile ride that encourages you to push on and flick the bike through singletrack whilst looking for roots and rocks to bunny hop and pop off. Cornering is quick and precise with rear wheel drift easily attainable. I found a cheap 26? frame off of PricePoint.com and built my own bike after that. Ride a bike you have built or one of a higher quality and you will realize how terrible bikes of this caliber are. Sure, anything that gets you riding is a plus, but as mentioned before you get what you pay for. As with the Day One, there are mudguards, rear pannier rack, and an internally geared rear hub for all weather dependability. Some adventures are about taking your time and drinking in your surroundings, others are about getting there fast. This bike is designed for lightweight bike-packing, able to tackle ultra-distances on mixed terrain. If you want more control over exactly what components your bikes is built with, both of these are available to buy as just the frameset. In this range there are also women’s specific models - in addition to the unisex ones. The Croix de Fer comes in three steel options (10, 20 and 30) as well as a titanium model. Some riders incorrectly assume that a lightweight wheel with a low spoke count is difficult to keep in true. Yet a poorly assembled wheel with uneven spoke tension is far more likely to have issues. That’s why the majority of new owners reported that their Genesis V2100 was delivered with bent wheels, right out of the box. This may have been done on purpose, to match the out of true Promax disc brake rotor. The brake can be adjusted, and may offer a fair amount of braking power, but it’s difficult to locate replacement parts, as most brake shops don’t carry pads for the very bottom of the barrel components like this. Sturdy triple wall aluminum 26” x 36 H x 12G rims and 26” x 2.10in tires are ideal for a daily city cruise. Poorly designed suspension, with a shock that would make Newton cringe (see Newton’s Third Law). It has a drivetrain that many bikes shops simply won’t touch. They’re not snobs, they just know that no amount of time or skill will make loose and sloppy components work well. The angles are steep, the front end is low and there aren’t mudguard or pannier mounts.
